Brangus bull buyers showed strong support during this year’s Classic Red Brangus sale at Gracemere on Tuesday.
With the stands full at Central Queensland Livestock Exchange’s bull selling complex, the sale recorded a solid $5771 price average with a 87 per cent clearance rate and a overall sale gross totaling $265,500.
The annual bull sale celebrated it’s 10 year anniversary with a very strong start and lot 1, Tannyfoil Maddox M193 polled sire, taking out top price of the sale at $14,500.
The impressive Tannyfoil M193 bull was offered Gavin McKenzie’s Tannyfoil Brangus Stud and was bought by John and Neriad Allen’s Mawson Brangus, Mawson Pastoral at Wondai, north of Kingaroy.
The 22-month-old Tannyfoil Maddox M193 sire entered the selling ring at 830 kilograms with an big eye muscle area scan of 147 centimetres squared.
The bull also displayed a softness and smooth coat type with 13 millimetres of fat on the rump and 8 millimetres of fat on the rib area, plus a scrotal measurement of 41 centimetres.
Mawson Brangus’s John Allen said the bull was a complete package that would contribute to increasing his Brangus stud’s muscle and weight-for-age of their stud bulls and commercial cattle.
“This bull has a great top line and well muscled in all the right places and still maintains the adequate fat cover as well,” Mr Allen said.
“We haven’t purchased Tannyfoil bulls before and saw this as a great opportunity to bring some new, high-quality Brangus genetics into our stud breeding program.”
The Allen family have been strong supporters of the Classic Red Brangus bull sale having attended the event from the start 10 years ago.
“The quality of Red Brangus bulls continues to increase every year at this sale and is a real credit to all the stud breeders involved,” Mr Allen said.
The Allen family’s Mawson Brangus Stud also offered three bulls during the sale.
The McKenzie’s Tannyfoil Brangus Stud is no stranger to success having also topped the market at last year’s Classic Red Brangus bull sale. The Tannyfoil Stud also sold lot 2, Tannyfoil M238 (P) bull, for $9500 to Maguire Cattle Co, Honeycombe, Dingo.
