REACH: RGS students at Ritamada, the school’s 82-hectare beach property at Emu Park, on the Capricorn Coast, which is a first-class outdoor education centre.

The 1400 students benefit from an environment that emphasises positive education, global competence, academic achievement and community service.

The school is Qld’s largest boarding school and home to more than 300 resident students.

Scholarships and Bursaries

The school offers bursaries based on demonstrated financial need as well as scholarships.

The ACER Scholarship Tests consist of a series of academic ability tests used by independent schools to select students for the award of a scholarship.

The 2019 rounds for both bursaries and scholarships are closed.

More information about 2020 application periods and test dates will be available soon at the school’s website at: rgs.qld.edu.au/opportunity.

Points of Pride

RGS is most proud of its students’ attitude and behaviour toward learning; their interest in ‘‘giving it a go’’ and working outside of their comfort zones, as well as their desire to perform to the best of their abilities.

The school has an excellent academic reputation (a third of graduates regularly attain outcomes that are in the highest assessment category).

It delivers one of the most successful vocational education programs in Qld.

In fact, 99 per cent of all graduates achieve at least one certificate-level qualification.

In 2019, Qld schools switch from an Overall-Position-based senior assessment to ATAR, the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank.

Numerous RGS staff have contributed significantly over the past two years to the development of the changing Qld curriculum.

Key Strengths

With a Masters of Education program, unique to Australia and co-designed by Griffith University, all RGS teachers are able to enhance their specialist knowledge as well as their teaching skills.

This organisation-wide focus on continual improvement and lifelong learning enables students to achieve education outcomes that are among the best in the state.

Facilities

RGS features farms, an elite-class rowing club on the Fitzroy River, a dance and musical theatre academy, an Olympic-size pool, and Ritamada.

Ritamada is an 82-hectare beach property bequeathed to the school in 1971 that has become a first-class outdoor education and leadership centre.

School History

Founded in 1881, the independent prep to Year 12 coeducation school was established by community members who wanted a strong, self-reliant education for central Queenslanders.

The school originated under Qld’s Grammar Schools Act 1860 to confer “on all classes and denominations… the advantages of a regular and liberal course of education”.
