Rolling up for a pine day

Rollingstone Pineapple Festival 2018

The iconic tropical fruit was celebrated at the annual Rollingstone Pineapple Festival today.

THOUSANDS of people celebrated all things pineapple at the annual Rollingstone Pineapple Festival today.

The delicious fruit was a draw-card for people who travelled from Townsville for the event.

The local communities of Rollingstone and Balgal Beach were well represented with residents joining together to celebrate one for the major events on their calendar.

From pineapple pancakes, pineapple cups and different varieties of the whole fruit to take home, there was plenty to tantalize the taste-buds.

There were plenty of activities for the whole family including a tug-of-war, pineapple tossing and a pineapple de-topping race to see who could chop the most pineapples in just 30 seconds.

Kids enjoyed cooling off on the slippery slide attended by the local Rural Fire Service, while parents enjoyed a refreshing beverage at the licensed bar.

Attendees were also treated to a camp oven cooking demonstration and taste-test and there were plenty of local market stalls to browse.

Raffles were held and donations made to support the Queensland Drought Relief appeal.
