Diamantina Mayor Geoff Morton has been forced to apologise for a series of nude images of himself which were found by a council staffer.
The Mayor of the Shire which hosts the Birdsville Cup on Saturday has said he was sorry that it happened.
“They were personal images taken for somebody’s personal business,” Cr Morton said.
The North West Star understands the multiple images were sent from a Diamantina Shire Council computer to a personal email address in 2017 and depict Cr Morton lying naked on a swag in a dry creek bed.
The Star also understands Cr Morton is now getting help from IT experts on how to download photos from his phone without using the council’s server.
The 64-year-old mayor is the fourth generation grazier of Roseberth station and is married to wife Bev and they have two sons Kerry and Steven.
This is his seventh term as councillor, commencing in 1980, and he has been mayor since 2012.
