An exemplary 94-lot draft will be offered at the 41st Annual National Charbray Bull Sale on Wednesday, September 19, at CQLX Gracemere from 10am.
Charbray Society of Australia president Les Marshall said the National Sale will provide a feast of genetics for stud and commercial operators with immaculate drafts being presented by 17 Queensland-based certified Charbray breeders.
“Prospective buyers will be able to bid with confidence knowing that their purchases will perform to and above their expectations,” he said.
Mr Marshall said the resilience of the breed has been proven with its ability to survive any conditions which nature produces.
“Another trait the Charbray are well-known for is their fertility. This is essential in today's cattle industry as the more calves we have on the ground the more financially viable we remain.
“The breed punches well above its weight, ticking the boxes for survivability, marketability and profitability.
“The Charbray animal is a highly sort after product because of the extra cents per kilogram it achieves, which puts more dollars in your pocket, and for their ability to fit into any market a beef producer is trying to target.”
At the 40th anniversary National Sale held last year, 53 bulls sold to gross $335,000 and average $6320.
The $24,000 top price of the day came from the Gooding familys’ Marlegoo Stud, Biloela when Marlegoo Leo the poll sire by Huntington Hanabull found his new home at fellow sale vendors property George and Cathy Hoares’ Braylyn Charbrays, Rockview, Bluff.
To celebrate the National Sale taking place, a meet and greet function will take place at the Arena deck of the Great Western Hotel, Rockhampton, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on September 18.
On the night, top female genetics will go under the hammer from a selection of leading Charbray studs during the seventh annual Charbray Elite Heifer Sale.
Last year the top price female was sold by the Welsh family, Huntington Charbrays, Taroom and was purchased for $5500 by Viv Hunt, Dellyvon Charbrays, Calliope. On the night the seven heifers offered sold to average $3700.
Post-sale, on Friday, September 21, from 7pm, at the Keppel Bay Sailing Club, Yeppoon, sale attendees are invited to a Charbray Dinner function which will include a three course meal featuring MSA grade, 90 day grain fed, premium quality, locally produced Charbray beef.
