It was a red hot start for the Wolff family on Monday as the Emerald based stud Canowindra drafted 36 bulls through the ring at the AgGrow Bull Selling Complex, with the second bull to enter the ring quickly reach an impressive $25,000.
Jason and Joanne Wolff, alongside one of their daughters Brielle Wolff, Canowindra Stud at Emerald saw the draft of 36 bulls gross $230,500 for the families first stand alone sale with a 97 per cent clearance and an average of $6402.
In high demand and topping the draft for the day was the 20-month-old 820kg sire Canowindra Rancher R95 (P) selling for $25,000 to John Robbins and Jan Clark, Daandine Pastoral Company, Gwambegwine, Taroom.
Rancher R95 bull, by Canowindra Magnum M5 (P), placed fifth in a big class of quality bulls at Beef Australia 2018. The young bull showed outstanding carcase attributes and great thickness through his topline and hind quarter, while boasting a 42cm scrotal circumference. Rancher R95 was described as a sire who had all the length, stretch, beef and bone you could want in a bull.
Buyer John Robbins said Rancher bull will be going into the small stud of selected heifers to supply their own bulls and to improve the herd at Gwambegwine, Taroom. Mr Robbins said the bull had all the attributes they were looking for on the day.
Jan Clark was willing to pay the money for the young bull as he had everything they were looking for. With good figures and a smooth coat Ms Clark felt the bull has the potential to grow into a good looking bull, adding that he presented a beautiful temperament, which is extremely important to their cattle operation.
John Robbins and Jan Clark secured four bulls on the day to gross $57,000 to average $14,250 with the bulls finding new homes throughout Springsure, Blackall and Taroom.
Next to top at $20,000 was Canowindra Reality R87 (P), a 16 month-old-month bull, with an impressive weight for age of 730kg and selling to the Baker family, Springsure.
Reality R87 bull, sired by Diamond H Real Force R117 (P) and out of Canowindra E15 cow, had the figures to back-up the top dollar with a supplementary sheet showing a 116cm sq eye muscle area and a 40cm scrotal circumference.
In attendance on the day was Stephen Ware, general manager of Santa Gertrudis Australia who said it was a great result for the first sale in Queensland’s central highlands region.
“With bulls going to the west and the south it was good to see there is confidence in our cattle market,” Mr Ware said.
Bulls found new homes throughout central west Queensland with bulk buyers Mindi Grazing, Winton securing nine quality bulls on the day for a gross of $27,000 with an average of $3000.
