There were 330 head yarded at Stariha Auctions Laidley cattle sale on Thursday. Cows and feeder steers held firm, while heifer rates showed a noticeable improvement. Younger and plainer cattle continue to be the most affected by the dry conditions.

The Evans family, Ma Ma Creek, sold a young Droughtmaster bull for $1300. Bannockburn Pastoral, Forest Hill, sold Red Brangus cows for $1300. Henry Muller and Pamela Jansson, Stockyard Creek, sold a Brahman bull for $1360 and steers for $935. Rosemary Hart, Murphys Creek, sold Droughtmaster cows for $1140.

Colleen Fitzgerald, Ingoldsby, sold milk tooth Droughtmaster steers for $1190 and Charbray steers for $1040. Ken Maguire, Ingoldsby, sold lines of Angus steers, 18-20 months, for $1025. Dorothy Harvey, Upper Lockyer, sold Shorthorn steers for $1020. John Hudson, Ropeley, sold 20 month old Charolais steers for $1150 and Charolais heifer calves for $595.

Highland Beef, Coominya, sold a line of 15 month old Droughtmaster cross steers for $980. Travis McDowell, Fernvale, sold a line of Brangus weaner steers for $750. Doug Gelhaar, Ingoldsby, sold Droughtmaster heifer calves for $600. Kerry Harris, Ropeley, sold 12-month-old Charolais heifers for $855. Hansens Run, Left Hand Branch, sold a line of Droughtmaster heifers for $765. Hoti Pty Ltd, Helidon Spa, sold Droughtmaster heifers for $705.
