ONE person has died after a truck and a car collided on the Bruce Highway at Bloomsbury this morning.
The crash happened about 11km south of Bloomsbury, ear the intersection with Porters Rd, about 7.30am.
It is understood the man was travelling south towards Mackay in a Mazda when he collided head-on with a truck travelling on the wrong side of the road.
The car’s driver, a 35-year-old man from the Mackay area, died at the scene.
The truck’s driver, a man aged in his 50s, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Mackay Hospital for treatment.
The Bruce Highway remains closed as investigations continue.
It was the second fatal crash in North Queensland in less than 24 hours, after three people died when two cars and a petrol tanker collided near Bowen.
The crash happened about 2.20pm, about four kilometres north of Bowen near the Collinsville turn-off.
Police today identified the victims as a 34-year-old Bowen man, who was driving one of the cars.
A man and a woman aged in their 70s, who are believed to be interstate tourists, also died after the truck landed on top of their car, which was towing a caravan.
The 38-year-old male truck driver was not physically injured during the crash.
The Bruce Highway was closed overnight as the scene was cleared. It reopened about 5.30am this morning.
