That's the advice from tanks manufacturer, Kingspan Rhino.
The company recommends those looking at investing in water infrastructure to use its online Catchment Calculator to work out what size tank is required.
Kingspan Rhino advises that there are four main things water storage is used for:
- household use;
- stock water;
- fire water.
When it comes to knowing what to install in order to make the most of the water available, Kingspan Rhino says a producer must consider water catchment, which means thinking about the size of the shed/roof and the annual rainfall in the area.
For cattle production, it recommends doing the sums on how many litres required per head in summer, multiplied by the number of head, plus other factors like the time it takes repair broken facilities, such as bore pumps.
According to Kingspan Rhino, up to 60 per cent of cattle stations in the Gulf are underutilised due to the lack of water.
The company has been installing a series of 275KL tanks across six stations which takes the stations' usage up to 80pc.
