Roy Dunn has picked up his second Mount Isa Rodeo open bull ride win with a superb ride in the final round on Sunday.

Dunn won the event in 2014 following in his uncle Troy Dunn 23 years earlier and the Sarina cowboy picked up his second buckle in the 60th anniversary rodeo this weekend.

Josh Birks led coming into the final round of 11 but neither Birks nor the other first eight competitors could last the full eight seconds.

See our Saturday photos here.

Sam Woodall then notched up an 81.5 to snatch the lead – which only lasted until the next rider.

Because that rider was Dunn on Blossom and he rode his way to a flawless 84 points for a total of 166.

Dunn limped away when coming off the bull but won the buckle, though his injury meant he had to forfeit his place in the international challenge.

In that competition runner-up Woodall stepped up to the mark and put together the best score of the weekend 87 points to beat his US counterpart and ensure the overall contest ended in a 4-4 between Australia and America over the eight timed and roughstock events.

The bareback final was another enthralling international contest with Wandoan cowboy Dave Worsfold (163) just holding off Chase Erickson (159) to win the buckle. Bevan Brown (154) was third.

In the open saddle bronc Carl Green (152.5) held off Greg Hamilton (146.5) and Tim Hammond (145.5).
