Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 1981 head at the prime and store sale on Wednesday, August 8.
Consisting of 713 prime cattle and 1268 store cattle. The prime cattle consisted of 345 bullocks, 50 heifers, 254 cows and 64 bulls.
Store cattle consisted of 305 steers, 937 heifers and 26 cows and calves.
Cattle comprised good lines of bullocks. Cows were a mixed mob of basically local cows. The yarding was drawn from Belyando, Richmond, Chillagoe, Coen, Normanton, coastal areas and local areas.
Bullocks were quoted 3c dearer, heifers were unchanged, cows were unchanged and bulls were 2c dearer on last week’s rates.
Prime Quotes:
Medium heifers up to 440kg sold to 213.2c to average 178.9c, heavy heifers over 440kg topped 234.2c to average 213.3c. Medium cows up to 440kg made 179.2c to average 117.4c, while heavy cows over 440kg sold to 196.2c to average 178c.
Medium steers and bullocks sold to 259.2c to average 212.7c while those over 500kg sold to 260c to average 242.4c.
Medium bulls up to 450kg sold to 264.2c to average 229.1c while those over 450kg topped 277.2c to average 217.6c.
Bullocks topped at 260c/kg for a pen of 10 Ox sold by EJT & KL Camp, Floraville Station, Burketown weighing 622kg to return $1617 per head.
Best priced trade heifers were presented by S & K Mintram, Wangaratta, Homehill that sold for 234.2c/kg to weigh 450kg and return $1053 per head.
The top pen of cows was sold by RB & DA VonWald for 196.2c/kg, weighing 540kg to return $1059 per head.
Bulls sold by BP & SM Kersh topped at 277.2c/kg and weighed 720kg to return $1995 per head.

Store cattle were made up of mixed lines of steers selling to a reduced buyer’s panel. There was one main line of heifers from the far north selling to a very competitive panel.
A pen of three steers from O’Brien & Sons made 258.2c/kg and weighed 258.2kg returning an average of $903.70/hd. A good pen of 32 heifers from ILC Bulimba, made 226c/kg, weighed 224kg for a return of $507/hd. A cow and calf sold by I Axford, returned $860.
