The Santa Gertrudis judging attracted a big crowd of onlookers ringside at the Ekka on Thursday, coming from as far away as Texas, USA.
They saw plenty of competition from 160 entries, the largest breed on the grounds this year, and cheered on 31 studs.
It was agreed that the numbers shown on ground on the day may have only been exceeded by those shown in the World Congress year.
Glenn Oaks, Yugilbar, Rosehill, the Ferguson family, and Waco all vied with the eventual grand champion-winning stud, Yarrawonga, which took out the double with Yarrawonga Gypsy and Yarrawonga H Bomb.
At the end of the day, D & AD Bassingthwaighte took out the Ross Blennerhassett Memorial trophy for the most successful exhibitor on the day, recording 45 points.
