AN impressive array of international and Australian speakers have been lined up or the grain fed beef sector’s premier event, BeefEx, to be held in Brisbane in October.
BeefEx 2018, the Australian Lotfeeder’s Association conference, will cover hot topics such as big data, consumer trends and beef industry economics, as well as a focus on markets, production, finance and leadership.
ALFA President, Tess Herbert, said BeefEx always sought to deliver speakers who would not only bring fresh insights and innovation but also explain how the latest thinking in these areas could be applied at the coal face of feedlot and beef supply chain businesses.
“Big data is a term that is thrown around a lot these days but it’s not always clear how it will really impact agriculture. BeefEx will lead discussion on this topic with three highly experienced speakers,” she said.
Visionary keynote Stephen Scheeler is expected to energise the room as he recounts his time at Facebook where he oversaw the company’s Australia and New Zealand team.
Working with Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook’s Silicon Valley leaders, Mr Scheeler guided Facebook ANZ’s business, including Instagram, Messenger, Whatsapp and Oculus, through one of the most dynamic periods of growth and disruption in recent business history.
His insights about what the tech giants think about innovation, data and technology will prompt discussion about what this means for the future.
Continuing on this theme, Ted Connell, Director of Global Industrial Sector Business Development and Solution Architect at Intel Corporation will discuss the endless possibilities of the Internet of Things and 3D printing.
Rounding out the discussion of big data and how it impacts the daily operations of feed lotters is David E. Williams, Senior Vice President, Informa Economics who will take BeefEx delegates through the New Beef Cattle Maths. David will offer some future focused analysis of the beef industry, from investment to export, and give some insights on the future of the sector.
“ALFA aims to position its members to be at the forefront of profitability, innovation and sustainability, and the speakers and program topics selected this year will certainly help our members to achieve these goals,” Ms Herbert said.
