Normally a dot on the map where only tumbleweeds and a derelict pub dwell, Quamby comes alive on the last Saturday of July for the annual Quamby Rodeo.
Going strong since 1997, the 21st anniversary rodeo organised by the hard-working volunteer committee of the Quamby All Sports Association attracted the usual huge crowd from across the region as well as a decent helping of tourists who are hearing word of mouth just how good the rodeo is.
Situated on the Normanton road 40km north of Cloncurry, the Quamby Rodeo has become a must do on anyone in North West Queensland’s bucket list and as usual there was a big contingent down from Mount Isa to take in the atmosphere.
