More than 300 people flocked through the gates for the McKinlay races last weekend.
Organisers said it was a great day out despite the event being postponed from its original date of June 23, because of rain.
The six race program was exciting with judges David Moore and Damien Chaplain having their work cut out for them in race two, the Linfox BenchMark 60 Handicap 1400m.
A photo finish took quite a while to determine the winner which was so close to a dead heat but the winner, Two of a Kind just made it by a nostril.
Mishani Centurion ridden by Steven Galvin and owned by Clinton Austin from Blackall won the 1800m South 32 McKinlay Cup Open Handicap.
The day finished with exciting footraces for all ages and the classic Chris McConachy memorial $1000 sprint which was won by Year 12 student Jared Hall.
The Tug of War then followed for all ages with a final determining winners at the end in the mens and womens.
Groove’s team from Julia Creek beat the Isa Tuggers in the womens and Where’s Wally from Coff’s Harbour beat the Pullers who were mostly from the north west in the mens.
Organisers gave a special thanks to the Mount Isa Race Club for giving McKinlay one of their race days.
The caterers, Magnums Catering who came from Townsville provided fantastic food all day, into the night as well as breakfast the next morning.
Liver entertainment was provided by Mount Isa band, the Ferals, who seemed to have all ages up and dancing.
There were some beautiful fashions and because McKinlay was celebrating 130 years since their first race meeting people were asked to come dressed in historical fashions.
Breanna Fegan from Penola McKinlay made most of the beautiful dresses herself taking only two days on each dress while Irene Batt made her own.
Breanna won this Victorian section in the Fashions while Melissa Nunns won the Best Dressed Lady.
Justin Vardy won the Best Dressed Victorian Gentleman while Shaun Thrift from Sydney won the best dressed Gentleman.
Children even dressed in the Victorian outfits.
Oliver Nunns won the best dressed Victorian junior boys while Beau Lyttle won the best dressed junior boys.
Georgie Vardy won the best dressed girl with her sister Molly winning the runner up prize.
The committee would like to send out a big thank you to all the people who helped with the work on the day as well as the preparations for the event.
