ABOUT 700 people a day flocked to the Richmond Field Day and Races, with organisers hailing the event as one of the most successful yet.
The two day event was held on June 15 and 16 at the Richmond Turf Club and culminated with the well supported race day.
More than $6000 was raised for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, with attendees asked to donate $5 at the gate.
Richmond Field Days committee secretary Kacie Lord said they were thrilled to have raised funds for the RFDS and said it was only made possible by the local and visiting grey nomad volunteers who manned the entrance.
Richmond Field Days president Will Guy said about 145 exhibitors had attended the event, which was the largest number ever.
Mr Guy said the event had a good vibe and most exhibitors were pleased with the result.
“I've had a heap of good feedback there was a really good vibe about the place all weekend, it's been really good,” Mr Guy said.
“The crowds were a little bit light on near the grandstand, but we’ve set up an extra 40 metres out this year, so they’ve been really happy.
“Going by the figures we had about 200 at the dinner on Friday night which was the most we've ever had.
“We’ve had the most number of exhibits we've ever had at around 145 and I think the crowd has been around 700 through the grates on Friday.
“We had tickets for about 500 so we've done alright, we’ve exceeded expectations.
“I’d say it was a success, it’s been great.”
Mr Guy said he had received good feedback from exhibitors.
“The last couple of years it has been a bit low, but this year everyone has had a real good crack.
“People have been happy to come out, the exhibitors have been busy and they were doing well selling stuff.”
Highlights of day one included the Combined Agents bull sale, which had a 100 per cent clearance rate and the entertaining ride on lawn mower race.
About 200 people attended the Stock Place Marketing cocktail party on Friday night, where lucky door prizes were awarded.
Hundreds of people attended the races on Saturday afternoon.
