Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 1954 cattle on May 30, consisting of 977 prime cattle and 977 store cattle. The prime cattle consisted of 122 bullocks, 93 heifers, 593 cows and 169 bulls. Store cattle yarded: 762 steers, 170 heifers, 45 cows and calves.
Cattle comprised of some larger lines of well finished cows, with a larger number of bulls selling to a competitive panel. There were a smaller line of mixed bullocks and heifers. The yarding was drawn from Richmond, Normanton, Mt Garnet, Townsville, Julia Creek as well as local and coastal areas.
Prime Quotes:
Bullocks were quoted unchanged from last week’s rates. heifers were 5c dearer and cows unchanged and bulls were 3c easier on last week’s rates.
A pen of 8 bullocks topped at 247.2c sold on a/c Nardoo Pastoral that weighed 623kg to return $1541.
Best priced trade heifers, were presented on a/c Burdekin Downs, which sold for 225.2c/kg to weigh 495kg and return $1115.
The top pen of cows were sold by M&T Toohey for 207.2c and weighed 595kg to return $1234.
Bulls sold on a/c Moor Moor Pastoral Company, topped at 259.2c and weighed 667kg to return $1730.
Store Quotes:
store cattle were presented in good lines with one larger line of Moor Moor Pastoral Company steers which sold to a well-represented buying panel. Smaller lines of quality heifers were presented and sold to local restockers. A pen of 9 steers a/c B Shadforth made 288.2c, and weighed 243.3kg returning $701.
A good pen of 15 heifers A/c D&K Bolton made 221.2c, weighed 210kg and returned $464.
Five cows and calves sold on A/c E&V Butler returned $1200 per unit.
