After a Saturday afternoon filled with grace and elegance on and off the track during the race meeting the entertainment will continue on until dusk with the Ray White Rural and Hastings Deering Ringers Challenge to take centre stage on the track from 5.30pm.
Ringers Challenge coordinator Ashley Naclerio said the event was very popular last year with close to 50 people competing.
“I think it’ll be hotly contested again this year, especially with the $500 in cash prizes that has been put up for grabs thanks to our event sponsors,” he said.
For the those unfamiliar with the concept challenge coordinator Ashley Naclerio said the activities included in the event are a parody of everyday ringer life.
“Usually we’ll have three or four teams competing at one time, with each team consisting of two mates.
“The pairs start the challenge by lying down in a swag at the starting line on the track, and when the hooter sounds, they have to sit up, jam on their boots, and quickly roll their swag.
“At this point they’ll charge down to the other end of the course on skis, with one of each pairs foot in each ski, with what I expect will be the grace of a pair of ballerinas.
“Once the reach the other end, they’ll each have to skol a drink with a Weet-Bix chaser, before conducting the preg test challenge, during which they’ll reach into a bag of two different coloured balloons and select a colour, which sounds easy enough, except they’ll be doing it with a condom on their hand instead of a glove.
“After achieving this feat, one of the pair will jump in a wheelbarrow, and guide their blindfolded ‘barrow pushing mate back to the starting point through a series of slalom-like pegs.
“It’s the home stretch from there as the duos will hop into a one tonne lick bag and start hopping back to the other end, at which point they’ll get out and roll a hay bale back to the starting line were glory and fame awaits for the winners.”
He said the winners of each heat will gain entry the final, where a “few mystery challenges” will be added.
