Adrenaline will rush, dust will fly and a wheel or two will inevitably come loose during the ever-popular Hughenden Motorcycles Lawn Mower Derby being held at the field days after 2.30pm on Friday, June 15.
The emphasis will again be on speed this year, though a few severe obstacles will be placed to challenge the teams.
- Event organiser Nikko Lord.
Derby organiser and Richmond local Nikko Lord said expressions of interest for the 2018 running of the event have been particularly solid.
“We have 10 teams confirmed at this stage,” he said.
“The Towers Power Equipment boys will be looking to make it three wins in a row, and we’ll also have a racing mower club from Charters Towers competing.
“Several Richmond teams are also clanging a few spanners together, and there is one local team in particular which I think are going to be pretty quick, I’m tipping them for the upset,”
He said the event provided a great challenge last year.
“Trying to complete the race proved to be the toughest hurdle, so it’ll be interesting to see how returning teams fine tune their mowers to make it to the finish line.”
Mr Lord said the emphasis will again be on speed, though a few “severe obstacles” will be placed to challenge the teams.
“We’ve also organised a special addition to the course that I’ll keep secret for the time being, which should make things even more interesting.”
While the key word for the Derby is fun, $1000 in total prize money will be awarded to the teams which place first through third, and the best dressed team will also be in the money.
