NEBO cowboy Jarrod Deguara will face tough opposition from all around standings leader Clay Bush in Saturday’s May 26 Mackay Toyota Nebo Rodeo.
The rodeo will be held in the Nebo Undercover Arena and starts at 6pm. Tickets will be on sale at the gate.
Bush hails from Yass, NSW, and has been the top all around cowboy in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association so far this season.
Deguara has qualified in the past for the national finals and faces a who’s who of APRA steer wrestlers at Nebo. He is also in team roping.
Past title winners Shane Kenny (Emerald) and Shane Iker (Alton Downs) are both in a field of 38 for the steer wrestling along with the Bell brothers, Cameron and Brenton, from the Rockhampton/Gracemere areas.
The Nebo Rodeo has attracted 406 nominations for second division, junior and open events on Saturday, the most at a Queensland rodeo so far this season.
Four members of the Deguara family are competing in their hometown rodeo. Jarrod’s wife Leanne is in breakaway roping and children Jake and Layney Deguara have nominated for junior events.
Truro (SA) rider Tom Willoughby will compete in steer wrestling and the bull ride.
There are strong fields in all rough stock events, including Queensland star Jason Mara and NSW cowboy Sean Lynch in the bull ride.
Wandoan cowboy Cameron Webster leads the saddle bronc standings but will be a strong field at Nebo which includes three-times Mt Isa Rodeo winner Michael Maher from Warwick.
The new season in the APRA started on October 1 but most of the action in the first eight months of the season has been in the southern states.
Sixteen of the 17 APRA rodeos in the next three months are in Queensland.
After this weekend, APRA action will move to the Bundaberg Show Rodeo on June 1, Moranbah Rodeo on June 2 and then Bowen River for two rodeos on the June 9-10 weekend.
