The excellent genetics and general high quality of bulls being produced in North West Qld will be showcased during The Richmond Field Days All Breeds Bull Sale taking place on the Richmond Racecourse grounds from 1pm on Friday, June 15.
Eight highly regarded vendors from Richmond and beyond have selected 42 bulls for the catalogue, comprising 20 Brahmans, 12 Charbrays, six Droughtmasters and four Santa Gertrudis.
After a more than two decade hiatus, the 2017 sale marked a long-awaited return to cattle selling in Richmond; a decision which sale agent Peter Thivakon, Elders Richmond, said was met warmly by vendors and buyers alike.
“The 2018 sale is again being coordinated by combined agents from Elders Rural Richmond, Stockplace Marketing, Kennedy Rural and Ray White Rural Richmond,” Mr Thivakon said.
“Though we received quite a positive response, some of the bulls offered last year didn’t sell in the ring, but were sold post-sale, so we’re looking looking to sell all lots catalogued under the hammer this year.”
With a gross of $154,750 and an average price of $4072 across all breeds, he said vendors and buyers alike were happy with the results in 2017, despite the adverse seasonal conditions in play at the time.
The top price getter of the sale was Koon Kool Pastoral Company’s Brahman herd bull 4619 which was purchased by Peter and Olivia Price, Hillview Station, Hughenden for $8000.
The then 20-month-old polled sire boasted 660kgs of meat, and a scrotal circumference of 34.2cm.
Mr Price said the bull caught his eye and stood out from the rest of the bulls presented.
“He had different but nice colouring and really liked his size, bone structure and temperament,” he said at the time.
Mr Thivakon said with the better wet season in the north, especially in the breeder country, he’s hoping the agents will be able to achieve a better result this year.
“Richmond is in a major beef production area in the state, and we think the bulls selected for the sale highlight the first-rate genetics being used to produce excellent bulls around the region.”
He said the 2018 sale has received “plenty of interest” from prospective buyers.
“We’ve had people calling to ask about the sale from as far as Croydon, east to Torrence Creek and west to Julia Creek.”
All bulls will be vet checked and tested prior to the commencement of the sale. Inspections of the bulls catalogued for the sale will be available from the afternoon of Thursday, June 14.
