With A lot of graziers attending Beef week CQLX agents only yarded a total of 1419 head on May 11 at Gracemere, comprising of 593 steers and bullocks, 580 heifers, 214 cows, 26 cows and calves and 6 bulls and mickies.
Cattle were drawn from west to Alpha, north to Mackay and south to the Miriam Vale. The quality was very mixed to say the least, but most descriptions held firm on last week’s rates with weaner steers and heifers dearer.
Slaughter steers made 259c/kg to average 250c/kg, steers 400-500kg sold to 259c to average 250c, steers 300-400kg sold to 270c to average 257c,, steers 200-300kg made 294c to average 274c, while steers under 200kg made a solid 360c to average 327c.
Slaughter cows sold to 223c to average 190c, cows 400-450kg sold to 182c to average 175c, while cows 320-400kg made 170c to average 156c.
Heavy heifers were firm to top 227c to average 212c, heifers 300-400kg sold to 234c to average 217c up 7c from last week, heifers 200-300kg made 236c to average 220c, while heifers under 200kg sold to 284c to average 273c.
Cows and calves sold to $1350/unit to average $1137/unit.
Bulls over 600kg made 239c to average 232c, bulls 450-600kg sold to 242c to average 242c and those under 450kg sold to 258c to average 251c.
