Five campdraft, challenge prospects from Nibbereena
CLERMONT stud Nibbereena Stock Horses will have five horses in the Toomba sale, with three ridden campdraft prospects, and two led horses.
Berry and Kelly Shann, who established the stud in 1998, have been selling through the Toomba sale for about 20 years.
They’re expecting good interest in their ridden horses, Nibbereena Mary Jane, Nibbereena Fast Car, and Nibbereena Marvellous.
Rising four-year-old bay mare Mary Jane, by Acres Destiny son and Docs Spinifex grandson Chauffeur Driven, and from Nibbereena Monica, is one to watch, Mrs Shann said.
“We really like her and think she could be a good challenge prospect.”
Also by Chauffeur Driven, but out of Nibbereena Concept, is Fast Car, a rising three-year-old chestnut gelding.
“Chauffeur Driven is our new sire, and he’s won and placed in challenges and campdrafts,” Mrs Shann said.
The couple’s other ridden horse, Marvellous, also has strong bloodlines. The rising five-year-old chestnut gelding is by Smart Little Lena clone Salute, and out of Warrenbri Romeo granddaughter Myall Springs Margo, a winner of the Warwick Silver Cup campdraft.
The family’s led horses include rising two-year-old bay gelding Nibbereena Uber, by Chauffeur Driven from Myall Springs Opaque, and Nibbereena Chickory, a rising two-year-old son of Myall Springs Omar and Smart Lookin.
Top campdraft and cutting bloodlines
THE Retreat Horse Company, Majors Creek had its first sale through Toomba last year, and has two ridden horses in this year’s catalogue.
Peter and Jenny Cook’s rising five-year-old chestnut gelding Swagger, by Nonda Newman and from Miss Moody, has some of the best Australian Stock Horse and Quarter Horse breeding, and is one to watch in the sale.
Swagger’s sire side is impressive, with Newman sired by Hazelwood Conman, one of the most sought-after stallions for campdrafting, and from Nonda Lets Talk Later, who was the only horse in Australia to ever make it to the top in both campdrafting and cutting.
The Cooks are also selling Neirbo Classic, a rising six-year-old mare by Resistol from Miss Spinnen Penny, who is eligible for Australian Stock Horse registration.
”They’ve both just done four weeks of mustering, and they both have the ability to compete in campdrafting,” Mrs Cook said.
“We’re extremely happy with how they’re going and our little mare is very quiet – she’s been ridden by the whole family.”

Young foal with potential to perform
CHARTERS Towers performance horse breeder Peter Doonan is offering one led horse in this year’s sale, a six-month-old Conductor colt out of Honey They’re Achin.
Achin Honey has top bloodlines on both sides.
His sire Conductor, a son of impact sire Docs Spinifex and Cedar Downs Anna, has won some of the biggest campdrafts, including the Warwick champion of champions, the Paradise Lagoons stallion draft and the Sydney Royal world championship draft.
Conductor’s progeny is also sought-after, with one of his most recent ring sales being that of four-year-old mare Tillers Tune, who made $38,000 in this year’s Landmark Classic sale.
On his dam’s side, Achin Honey has Docs Spinifex and Acres Destiny bloodlines, and his dam Honey They’re Achin is a proven performer herself.
She’s been trained and campaigned by elite horseman and owner of Conductor, Hugh Miles, Dungowan, NSW, who thinks she’s a “superstar”.
“She was third in the Warwick Gold Cup in 2016 and won four open drafts last year, and she’s still quite young at seven years of age,” Mr Miles said.
“Her dam line is very strong. Her dam Honey Don’t Tell won the Toowoomba open and non pro futurities in the same year, and a mare out of her won last year’s open futurity at Tamworth. And Honey They’re Achin is also by Acres Destiny, who’s been the leading sire of campdraft horses for the past decade.”
Achin Honey is the first foal out of Honey They’re Achin to be offered through a public sale.
“Conductor is my favourite horse, and Honey They’re Achin is in the top three mares I’ve ever drafted,” Mr Miles said.
