CHARTERS Towers grazing property Somerset has sold at a Ray White Rural auction for $4.3 million.
Located 60km north of Charters Towers, the 14,542 hectare (35,936 acre) property was offered by Mary Vicary, who is looking forward to retirement.
The buyer was neighbouring landholder Jack Mann, Lachwall, Charters Towers.
The sale price is equal to about $296/ha ($120/acre).
Marketing agent Kevin Currie, Ray White Rural Townsville, said Somerset has received 23 inspections. A total of 14 parties had registered to bid, with three parties active on sale day.
Mr Currie said the property has been run as an agistment operation the past 10 years. During that time Somerset has been moderately stocked.
The country is described as open to semi open sandy loam flats with some black soil hollows and an area of red basalt.
The property is traversed by three small creeks and Lolworth Creek, a bigger permanent creek, is on the north west boundary.
There are six main paddocks, five smaller paddocks and three holding paddocks, four dams and three bores.
Infrastructure includes a home, hay and machinery shed, tractor, lick and saddle shed and stables. There is also an older second house that is used as quarters and for storage.
The carrying capacity is estimated to be 1200 breeders and offspring.
The marketing of Somerset was handled by Kevin Currie and Russell Wolff, Ray White Rural.
