The 2018 Elite Wagyu Sale held in Mackay in conjunction with the WagyuEdge Conference was undoubtedly a tremendous success for all those involved recording a whopping gross of over 1.1 Million on the 51 lots sold.
It was the poll Wagyu bull Poll Wagyu Midnight M0775 offered by Poll Wagyu Pty Ltd that made the top gong selling for a massive $185,000 a Wagyu breed record to South African breeders Strydom Prime Genetics, Aliwal North, Free State.
Midnight M0775 was in the top five per cent of the breed for marbling and his total carcase index (TCI) of +$348, top 10pc for marble fineness and top 20pc for retail beef yeild.
The hetrozygous bull was sired by Mayura Itoshigenami Jnr, a bull that is extremely well know in the Wagyu breed for this high marbling averaging a marble score of 9 in the Mayura Station production system and his large eye muscle area (EMA) being in the top 1pc of the breed.
Itoshigenami Jnr sired the $105,000 top price bull in the 2017 Elite Wagyu Sale as well as toping the semen section of the 2016 Elite Wagyu Sale when 10 units sold for $3000/unit.
Stone Axe Pastoral Company, Tarana, NSW parted with the second top money of $100,000 for a bull for Lock Rogers’ Door Key Wagyu in Door Key M0209 a son of Macquarie Wagyu Y408 who’s semen topped the 2017 Elite Wagyu Sale.
Door Key M0209 was in the top 1pc of the breed marbling, marble fineness and TCI at +$437
A full brother to M0209, Door Key M0260 sold for $70,000 to JFW Enterprises, Chinchilla, QLD.
Hewitt Pastoral Enterprises, “Riversleigh”, Taroom, followed up there top rice bull purchase in 2017 by forking out $80,000 for Macquarie Wagyu M0549 a son of breed legend Michifuku.
Macquarie Wagyu M0549 was in the top 1pc of the breed for marbling, marble fineness, and TCI at +$318 and top 5pc for EMA.
In total 14 of the 26 bulls offered sold for an average price of $41,821.
Hewitt Pastoral Enterprises also purchased the top price female Mayura M0082 offered by Mayura Station, Millicent, SA, for $80,000.
The daughter of Mayura Itoshigenami Jnr was in the top 1pc for marbling and TCI at +$396.
After selling the top price female in 2017 Arubial Wagyu, Condamine, QLD, sold Arubial N0081 for $55,000 to Ureshi Wagyu, Dorrigo, NSW.
In total four of the eight females offered sold for an average price of $41,250.
Semen sold to a top of $8000/unit for 10 units of Coates Itoshigenami G113 offered by Macquarie Wagyu, Warwick, QLD purcahased by Arubial Wagyu.
Coates Itoshigenaimi G113 was in the top 1pc for marbling, carcase weight and TCI at +$545 ranking him the number 3 living Wagyu bull in Australia.
In total 16 semen packages sold for a complete clearance and an average of $1076 per unit.
Fifteen of the 18 embryo packages offered sold for an average of $2035 per embryo selling to a top of $3250 per embryo for a package of eight embryos from Strathdale Wagyu, Sarina, QLD, sired by Moyhu F D507 out of Island Wagyu J1404 they were puchased by Delta Wagyu, Singleton, NSW.
The auction was conducted by GDL Rural with Harvey Weyman-Jones, Peter Brazier, Mark Duthie, and William Loudon the auctioneers.
