Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 1731 cattle on April 11 – the largest yarding in over six weeks as the mustering season begins. The breakdown was 907 prime cattle and 824 store cattle.
The offering of cows was quite good with some very good heavy and extra heavy cows on offer along with some very good quality bullocks, while store cattle were of mixed quality with some good lines on offer.
This week’s yarding which was drawn from Greenvale, Tully, Ingham, Burdekin, Georgetown, Mt Isa, Torrens Creek, local and coastal areas.
Prime Quotes:
Heavy bullocks were quoted as unchanged, heifers were 10c dearer, cows were 5c easer and bulls were 5c dearer on last week’s very small yarding.
Bullocks topped at 266c/kg for 14 ox sold by Mt Douglas Pastoral Co that weighed 623kg to return $1658.
Best priced trade heifers were presented by MG and HJ Bredden that sold 246c to weigh 472kg and return $1161.
The top pen of cows were sold by Thomas Brown for 219c and weighed 565kg to return $1238.
Bulls sold by Hann Creek Grazing topped at 265c and weighed 653kg to return $1729.

Store cattle comprised of good quality lots of steers and heifers, selling to a subdued buyers gallery.
A pen of 10 steers from Mark Camilleri made 304c and weighed 217kg, returning an average of $659.
A good pen of 4 heifers from DR and K Bolton made 256c, weighed 240kg and returned an average of $614.
23 x 23 cows and calves sold by MG and HJ Bredden returned $1225 per unit.
