FARMERS don’t always want all the bells and whistles on a machine.
In response to this, global manufacturer Amazone have introduced a no-frills six-metre rigid version of it’s ED precision air seeder.
On release the company said the planter would perform as well as the folding model, with a lower price point associated with the reduced specifications.
Claas Harvest Centre, product manager for Amazone, Craig Hopkins, said the ED 6000 had reduced hydraulic and electronic requirements, which increased compatibility with older, lower specification tractors.
“The singling drive and the fertiliser metering are driven mechanically via a ground wheel,” he said.
“While the blower fan is driven via the power take-off (PTO) shaft.”
Mr Hopkins said an Amascan terminal monitors the singling process and provides a hectare counter.
According to the specifications, the ED 6000 can be equipped with eight or 12 sowing units, each with a 60 litre hopper and the choice of two fertiliser systems.
Mr Hopkins said one fertiliser system comprises of two 110 L applicators for applying starter fertiliser through the sowing coulters.
The alternative system is a 100 L fertiliser tank with single disc openers or trailing suffolk coulters, he said.
The sowing units can be fitted with classic coulters for cultivated soil or contour coulters for a stubble retention farming system.
