KIDS of all ages have swarmed to Springsure this week for the annual cattle camp.
One of the youngsters learning the ropes of the industry was Riley Taylor, seven, Kilmacon, Kilcummin, who has been going to the camp for three years.
On Monday Riley was busy learning how to lead cattle, identify their body parts, and how artificial insemination works. He said in the morning he learned that cows have udders and bulls have sheaths and testes.
Riley said he most enjoyed learning the “pretend leading” – probably because the kids were attaching lead ropes to each other and practicing on their friends.
Riley, the eldest of four kids, is a Year 2 student at St Joseph’s in Clermont. He said when he grows up he wants to be a farmer who has cows.
At the cattle camp Riley’s bull to lead was a Jamar Santa Gertrudis bull, who he said was “very nice”.
“I’m going to have a John Deere tractor,” Riley said of when he is grown up.
“Because green is my favourite colour.”
