DEMAND for Texas Longhorn cattle from Queensland breeders remains strong with the annual Trails West Texas Longhorn Sale in Roma topping at $7450 today.
Again, it was Charters Towers vendors, Michael and Lynda Bethel or Horseshoe B Longhorns who topped the sale with their 17-month-old full-blood heifer, Roxie, selling to repeat buyers Brendan and Monique Schick, Crows Nest.
Roxie was chased by many buyers at the sale after being artificially inseminated in December to Cowboy Tuff Chex bull, Tuxedo.
She is set to have one of the first of his calves in Australia.
The Schick family also purchased the top price lot of last year’s sale, the $8000 HBL Marianna.
This year’s event saw 37 of 43 Texas Longhorn lots sell for an 86 per cent clearance and a $2402 average.
The results were up on last year when the sale averaged $2318 and had an 85 per cent clearance.
The Bethel’s, who were one of three vendors at the sale, sold one bull, five heifers and two steers to average $3493.
Wes and Hayley Offord, Brigalow Longhorns, Marmor, sold five of their six heifers to average $1325.
Gordon and Desley Davidson, D 7 Spur Texas Longhorns, Cheshire, Tambo, sold two bulls, four cows, seven cows and calves, five of their six heifers and five of their nine steers to average $1758.
