A diverse range of exhibits have been locked in for the biennial Innisfail Agricultural Field Day taking place at the Innisfail Showgrounds on Thursday, April 19.
Field Day organiser Wayne Thomas said 100 sites have been allocated for this year’s event encompassing a broad spectrum of exhibits including tractors and trucks, sheds, tyres, solar equipment, camper vans, government departments, and even a supplier of prosthetics.
“We’ll also have many fertiliser suppliers present including businesses specialising in alternative fertilisers and soils ameliorants; as well as a range of implements for use under minimal tillage farming practices,” Mr Thomas said.
The majority of the leading financial institutions will also be on-site to provide advice on the support and range of services they can provide, specifically for farmers.
Mr Thomas said the new drone that Canegrowers and DAF will be trialling this year for the control of weeds in cane will be on display, and is sure to be a highlight.
“It will be interesting to see and hear about this large RPL Drone with a width of 1.5m and capable of carrying a 10kg load, which identifies weeds in paddocks and applies herbicide according to weed species.”
BioSecurity Queensland will have a display to provide information about Panama TR4.
“This information is most relevant to banana growers but will be of interest to all landholders in banana growing areas. They will also have a display that focusses on noxious and declared weeds, and landholders will be able to seek answers on the recommended control measures.”
Mr Thomas said with water quality being a big issue and some major work going on in the Wet Tropics, water quality sampling units will be set-up so farmers can see water quality testing in action.”
The Green Collar Group will be on-site to discuss their recently developed Reef Credits program.
“Landholders who adopted changed practices or improved land management that will reduce the run-off of Dissolved Inorganic Fertilizer can receive income for their efforts through this new initiative, it’ll be interesting to learn more.”
Queensland Sugar Limited will host a breakfast to provide updated information to sugarcane farmers, and Elders Stud Cattle Display will be setup in the livestock pavilion.
“The field day committee has purposely kept the event to one day as it allows exhibitors to limit the impact on their businesses and reduce costs.”
