A THIRST for knowledge is what’s driving Brandy-Lee Shannon to undertake a university degree while working on Carmichael Station.
But the busy mother of two girls, Jessica, 4 and Betty, 1 wouldn’t have it any other way.
She’s used to diving in head-first, along with husband Mick, with the couple marrying after dating for just a few short months.
Brandy-Lee said she had known her future husband for years before their first official date at the Melbourne Cup in 2012. They were engaged by Christmas that year and married on Valentines day in 2013. Their first born arrived in October that year, which was when Brandy-Lee decided to study.
She is studying a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Applied Biology, through CQ University in Rockhampton.
“I used to work in extensions and deliver reef rescue grants, but I've always wanted to do science,” Brandy-Lee said.
“I really like pasture and soil so that is something that I'm really interested in.”
Brandy-Lee said she was interested in researching native grasses and utilisation rates of native pasture, which she believed can have a positive benefit on the soil.
“There is not much science around it, so that’s where I eventually want to go, pasture and soil research. I don’t have to be in a lab to to that, I can be out on the land.”
She said she was also interested in genetics, particularly now they had a mob of full blood Wagyus.
