Planning for the 2018 Innisfail Agricultural Field Day is well underway with a broad spectrum of goods and services, events and attractions being organised for the bi-annual event.
Field Day organiser Wayne Thomas said since invites were sent out to exhibitors from 2016 there has been a strong response for this year’s event taking place at the Innisfail Showgrounds on Thursday, April 19.
“We’ll have a better understanding after February 19, which is the deadline for 2016 exhibitors to “claim” their site,” Wayne said.
“We’ve deliberately kept it as a one-day event, which allows exhibitors to limit the impact on their businesses and reduce costs,” he said.
“We don’t have excessive site fees. Canegrowers Innisfail organise the event on behalf of all primary industries and we don’t aim to achieve a huge profit from the event.”
The myriad exhibits readying for the 2018 event include the usual range of tractors and trucks, and many fertiliser suppliers will be present including businesses that specialise in supplying a range of alternative fertilisers and soils ameliorants.
The majority of the leading financial institutions will be on-site to provide advice on the support and range of services they can provide, especially to farmers.
There will also be exhibits covering supply sheds, tyres, fuels and oils, solar equipment, camper vans, government departments providing advice, and even a supplier of prosthetics.
Wayne said Queensland Sugar Limited will host a breakfast aimed at providing updated information to sugarcane farmers, “but is of interest to everyone”.
“We’re also aiming to have a display of a drone operating that is part of a project which identifies weeds in paddocks and applies herbicide according to weed species.
“With water quality being a big issue and some major work going on in the Wet Tropics, we’ll set up water quality sampling units so farmers can see water quality testing in action.
