Vegemite icy poles. Yes ...

Vegemite icy poles. Yes ...

We all love our Vegemite, but enough to make brown icy poles?

Another day, another Vegemite option it seems.

This time the stuff that was once simply a breakfast staple across the nation is being frozen.

Yes, icy poles.

The thought of brown frozen treats hasn’t exactly thrilled everyone but Vegemite, with a twist, is causing waves in cyberspace again.

Only a couple of months ago, Vegemite shouted about its “premium recipe”.

Vegemite Blend 17 was available for a limited time. It had a premium price attached at almost double the original recipe.

Maybe summer’s icy DIY option is a return to their roots?

But, if you’re a Vegemite lover – give it a go!

Vegemite Icy Poles

Prep time: 15 min - Total time: 6 min Makes: 8 servings

2/3 cup caster sugar

½ cup cocoa

¼ cup honey

2 tablespoon Vegemite

3 teaspoons cornflour

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup milk

1 cup thickened cream, whipped

Combine in a saucepan the sugar, cocoa, honey, Vegemite, corn flour and milk.

Whisk over a medium heat until the mixture is smooth, bring to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer gently until slightly thickened and custard-like.

Remove from the heat, pour into a heat proof bowl and chill.

Fold the whipped cream through the chilled custard mixture then pour into popsicle moulds.

Freeze until firm.
