There will be four candidates in the by-election this month to elect a new mayor for Winton with three sitting councillors putting their names forward.
The by-election will be held on Saturday, November 18 – a week before the state election – and was caused by the death of sitting mayor Butch Lenton.
Among those seeking to seeking to replace Butch is his deputy mayor Shane “Boo” Mann, who heads the council’s powerful finance and governance portfolio.
Also standing are fellow councillors Travis Harbour, whose portfolio is health, environment and planning, and Gavin Baskett who looks after community, culture and lifestyle and who is a well-known Central West rugby league referee.
The only candidate to stand from outside council is Debbie Nichols.
Ms Nichols runs the Winton Butchery with husband Jeff and is an organiser of the local Light Horse Beersheba reenactment.
The ballot for the by-election was drawn on Tuesday and it was good news for Cr Harbour who was drawn first.
The full draw:
- Travis Harbour
