Day one of the Australian Brangus Cattle Association sale certainly started with a bang after a $26,000 high was reached for Telpara Hills Miss Foundation, by Suhn’s Foundation 331Z28 (P), who was snapped up by Lake Majestik Brangus, Alabama, USA and offered by the Pearce family.
In the first section of the sale, 43 heifers saw a 100 per cent clearance to gross $267,250 with a $6215 average.
Second top price of the daylight sale was $22,000 paid by Fleetwood and Margaret Grobler, Stockyard International, Tamworth.
Fleetwood and his family have recently moved to Australia from South Africa where they have been Brangus breeders for many years.
The Groblers were able to source four heifers including the third, fourth and fifth top price females of the day to average $19,000 all from the Telpara Hills Stud.
The Groblers then went on to purchase the second top price female at the Ladies of Legacy sale in the evening with Alkoomie MS Foundation 000L6 (P) (AI) (ET) another daughter of Suhn’s Foundation offered by the Roberts Family, Alkoomie, Yaamba for $10,000.
The semen component met strong demand with quality lots donated by breeders to assist in breed promotion at Beef 2018, which resulted in a gross $8830 and a $64 per straw average with the top hitting $140 per straw in Bonox 335 (P) donated by Bruce and Leanne Woodard, Bonox Stud selling to Brad and Nicole Saunders, Pheasant Creek Brangus.
The Reid family, Jett Brangus offered seven embryo packages to gross at $3875 topping at $200 per embryo to average $131, with Julie Sheehan and Jason Jeynes, Kraken Brangus securing the top price Lead Gun of Brinks 222K14/Texas Toque Z008 combination.
Volume buyers included Jane Geddes, Charlevue Brangus securing five heifers, while David and Prue Bondfield, Palgrove Ultrablacks secured four females and three embryo packages.
The evening saw a record broken and Brangus breeders reunite at the Gracemere Hotel to provide the backdrop to the Elders Ladies of Legacy Female Auction where five heifers were offered to gross $83,500 and average $20,875 for four being sold.
Telpara Hills Miss Van Damme 15 M3 (P) (AI) (ET), offered by the Pearce family, quickly broke the existing record with Troy Mitchell, Coffs Harbour bidding via phone from Chile securing the heifer for the Australian Brangus female at auction record of $60,000.
