SPINIFEX State College students were among six schools in Queensland trialling an interactive online course to obtain their learner driver’s licence.
The PrepL online test aims to replace the 30 question multiple choice paper by early next year if this trial is considered successful. The other schools involved are in Gordonvale, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Logan and the Sunshine Coast.
Minister for Main Roads and Road Safety Mark Bailey said it was great to see teenagers in Mount Isa part of the trial.
He said the trial could “revolutionise” how Queenslanders learned to drive.
“We know that young drivers are more at risk of being involved in a road traffic crash due to peer pressure and driver distraction like mobile phone use, so that’s why it’s so important we get this right,” Mr Bailey said.
“Students won’t just learn the road rules with PrepL – they’ll learn why the rules exist in a virtual environment where they can get an understanding for the consequences of poor driving behaviour.”
