Rain continues to cover the Central Highlands today as an upper trough continues to move south easterly.
This weather event moved from north west Queensland and hit the Central Highlands on Sunday with Belyando Crossing receiving the most rain with 153 millimetres overnight.
In the last 24 hours other recordings include: Castle Creek with 134mm, Peakvale 111mm, Clermont 22mm, Emerald 57mm, Moranbah 30mm, Mystery Park 95mm and St Lawrence 74mm.
This weather event continues to cover the south eastern corner of the state with rain expected to continue into the Wide Burnett region today and off-shore tomorrow.
Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) meteorologist, Aditi Sharen, said this was above average rainfall for this time of year.
“Averages for October are 35mm for Belayando, 39mm for Emerald and 35 for Clermont.”
Rain received across the Belyando was patchy with Eddie and Patricia Dennis of Old Twin Hills Station, only receiving 22mm.
“We are about 55 kilometres from the Belyando Crossing so there was a big difference in rainfall totals,” Ms Dennis said.
“We are definitely not complaining about the rain we received, as some producers received less than us.
“Elgin Downs had 32mm and our other property to the south Warminda had only 19mm.”
Ms Dennis said they hadn’t received a spot of rain since the start of the year.
“We haven’t had anything since March this year and before that it was January,” she said.
“Things were starting to look kind of desperate around here, so any little bit helps.”
“The rain has been enough to settle the dust for a little while and hopefully as the sun comes out in the next few days we will get some green pick.
“Many like us are hoping this is only the start, and there is more rain to come.”
