THE spectacular sunset lowered over the bare horizon in the George Fisher zinc mine – as it does every day.
What does not happen every day is the fundraising gala night held in a marquee on that mine site.
The sunset’s light shone through the see-through marquee on Saturday evening as guests arrived for the event which raises funds for breast cancer support.
Miners, politicians and candidates, volunteers, business owners, Kalkadoon representatives and members of the local Mount Isa community traveled by bus onto the mine site.
They then waited on the ‘pink carpet’ and while doing so could choose to have a few tee-offs of golf. Guests also had their professional photographs taken before they entered the elaborately decorated marquee.
The same look of wonder appeared in their eyes as they entered the marquee. Many of the attendees have been attending the same types of events in the community for years.
This was a different occasion for them.
