As long-time backers of Queensland’s agriculture industry, The Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) are proud to have supported Queensland Country Life’s Food Heroes events throughout the year.
QRIDA CEO Cameron MacMillan said the staff have been inspired by the stories, experiences and journeys of the producers who have welcomed them on their properties.
“Coming from a range of industries and regions across Queensland, they have all shared a passion, determination and drive to pursue their visions,” he said.
“By thinking outside the square, focussing on consumers and daring to have a go, they’ve lifted productivity, reduced costs and attracted new customers and markets.”
QRIDA’s low interest Sustainability Loans were designed with doers like this in mind. The program provides up to $1.3 million for the expansion and improvement of primary production operations, funding projects that contribute to the long-term sustainability and profitability of the business, and in turn Queensland’s agriculture industry.
Producers have used Sustainability Loans to implement changes and projects such as:
- On-farm dairy processing and value-adding facilities to increase margins and protect the integrity of organic product
- Constructing cutting edge greenhouses, allowing them to produce more with less energy, less water and less space
- Upgrading packing sheds for better produce grading, stronger alignment to consumer demands and less waste
- Maximising tree crop results through fertigation
- Implementing GPS controlled machinery
- Installing water and energy efficiency measures such as solar panels to cut costs
For those just starting on their journey – whether with a dream of entering the agriculture industry or venturing out on their own away from the family business – QRIDA’s First Start Loans can make it happen.
This program provides up to $2 million to assist in establishing a primary production enterprise, from property purchase (including taking over or buying into the family farm) to initial on-property improvements.
Both Sustainability and First Start Loans offer repayment terms of up to 20 years, with interest rates currently as low as 3.02 per cent.
QRIDA once again congratulates and thanks Queensland’s Food Heroes for opening their properties and businesses, and sharing their inspirational stories.
“We salute all primary producers who every day strive to grow and build their rural businesses and in doing so are creating stronger rural and regional communities.”
