The largest, single stud offering of Breedplan recorded Grey Brahman females ever to be put to auction in Australia will go ‘under the hammer’ when Rodger and Lorena Jefferis’ industry leading Elrose Stud presents their catalogue of 380 lots at Dalrymple Saleyards, Charters Towers on May 29.
Rodger Jefferis said it’s a significant reduction sale of a great line of breeders to make way for the next generations of young breeders to take over their paddocks.
In total 260 cows and calves, 80 PTIC cows, 30 unjoined heifers and four proven sires, all ABBA registered, comprise the offering.
Elrose Stud is one of the largest Brahman studs in the nation with a long history of success in stud and commercial cattle events at major beef industry and Brahman breed competitions.
In 2009 Elrose Grey Brahman steers accounted for the best of all breeds, taking out the Grand Champion Prime Cattle award of Beef Australia’s internationally recognised event.
The stud’s early adoption of Breedplan performance recording in 1995 and its continuous involvement in a succession of genetic research trials conducted by the CRC, UQ, AgBU, UNE, DAFF, Brahman BIN Project, etc., focused on fertility, reproduction, carcass qualities and growth performance, has been invaluable and has greatly benefited the progress of Elrose genetics, according to Mr Jefferis.
“Our aim is targeted at a superior, broad, balanced trait selection that in combination greatly increases returns from the herd,” he said.
Elrose currently markets 600 bulls to the industry annually while also retaining 200 bulls for in-herd use.
Sale co-agent Ken McCaffrey of McCaffrey’s Australian Livestock Marketing, Rockhampton, said the sale will be unique as its features can’t be compared with any previous stud Brahman female auction sales.
“The genetic values of Group Breedplan add another layer to this offering for prospective purchasers,” he said.
“It’s extremely comprehensive, with EBV’s for 15 individual traits and two separate indices on all lots.
“Values will be established by industry competition as our vendors have instructed to sell to the highest bidders on that one massive sale day.”
