With a reduced yarding to just under 1000 head influenced by local scattered rain events, the March 16 sale saw an increase in most categories on the back of last week’s lesser quality yarding at Emerald.
Mostly local cattle, along with a few from Alpha were penned and a full field of buyers were present which helped to lift values.
Overall quality and condition were good throughout the yarding.
Over 550kg bullocks made to 258c to average 256c, with steers 500-550kg making to 282c to average 261c, steers 400-500kg made to 288c and averaged 275c.
Meanwhile steers 320-400kg made to 320c to average 280c, steers in the weaner weight ranges made to 371c to average 327c.
Heifers over 400kg made to 268c to average 261c with heifers 300-400kg making to 328c to average 276c, while heifers in the weaner weight ranges made to 341c to average 286c.
Cows over 520kg making to 227c to average 220c, while cow s 400-520kg made to 224c to average 218c.
A good line up of cows and calves were on offer with the best quality making to $1470 per unit.

Robbie and Veronica Ryan, BridgeFlats, Emerald sold quality Droughtmaster cows to 221c to weigh 585kg or $1294.
The Esmond family, Lucknow, Emerald sold Euro cross cows to 226c to weigh 519kg or $1173.
Mike and Vicki Donovan, Coolibah, Capella offered quality Brahman cross cows making to 226c to weigh 615kg or $1392.
The Bettridge family, Mt Wilga, Alpha sold a line of Droughtmaster cows and calves making to $1470 per unit.
