A Tableland boutique milk processor has been named one of Australia’s top ten milk brands.
Brothers Rob and Dan Watson and their team at Mungalli Creek Dairy, Millaa Milllaa, were thrilled to have been ranked among the best of the best.
Mungalli Creek Dairy is a on-farm processor of premium quality dairy products based on the Atherton Tablelands.
It supports nine local family farms and employs over 50 staff across their farms, on-farm café, on-farm manufacturing and distribution.
Mungalli Creek is committed to ensuring high quality ethically produced milk and yoghurts are available to North Queensland families. They run a mixed herd of Jersey, Swiss Brown and Aussie cows.
Run by Artisan House, milk producers were invited to be scrutinised, with each entry assessed on operational integrity, ethical practices and provenance.
Mungalli Creek Dairy scored 9.5 out of 10, which was the second highest score out of the 10 producers named.
Mungalli Creek Dairy marketing manager Michelle Bell-Turner said the ranking was great formal recognition at a national level that the products were are up there with the best.
“It confirms that the time and effort that our farmers put into ensuring the best quality biodynamic pastures and herds and the gentle processing that we use translates to a great ethically produced product for consumers,” Ms Bell-Turner said.
The Watson family believe that it is vital that food be produced as naturally as possible and use bio-dynamic farming principles.
“Our success comes from a simply farming philosophy of using biodynamic practices to work with nature and treating the milk as gently as possible.
“Given that three of the top 10 producers use biodynamic farming practices, I would say it definitely makes a difference in the end product.
“Consumers also appreciate the high level of ethics that comes with farming this way.”
