North Queensland’s first rural incubator, situated in Charters Towers, has appointed Eliza Rogers as community manager to help start-up businesses realise their full potential.
The role will be instrumental in engaging directly with start-up businesses in the community, and is modelled on a successful program in the United States. The World Incubator will publicly announce which applicants have been successful on April 30.
Eliza grew up around the Charters Towers region and is passionate about the community and its potential.
She believes empowering local people to set up business ventures will help reinvigorate the economy in a sustainable way and reduce the unemployment rate.
Her role involves support and motivation for start-up businesses, seeking sponsorship and engaging audiences on social media.
The founder of the World Incubator, Mellissah Smith, said the community manager would give entrepreneurs what they needed to be successful.
“We’ve seen how a start-up can become a large business before in rural parts of the world,” she said. “Charters Towers is known for mining, tourism and agriculture – now we hope the town is also known for entrepreneurship and ability to create jobs.”
