THE Historic Village Herberton celebrated its best year yet in 2015, with more than 28,000 visitors filing through the gates.
The village is located at Herberton in far north Queensland. Most of its content dates back from the town’s foundation years, with buildings and items displayed reflecting life in north Queensland from 1880s onwards.
Village owner Craig Kimberley said word of mouth from self-drive travellers continued to be the best form of advertising for the village, which has grown to become one of the major drawcards on the Tablelands.
"Over the last 12 months, we have opened a number of new exhibits including Elderslie House, Keid’s Saw and Planing Mill, the Cobb & Co Coach,” Mr Kimberley said.
“We expanded the John Deere Tractor Shed exhibit with three new arrivals – a 1937 ‘AOS’ Streamlined Orchard Tractor, a 1934 ‘GP’ Beaner and a 1932 General Purpose Wide Tread Over Top Steering (GPWT-OTS).
“We are continually looking to improve the experience so people have a reason to return.
“We are very excited about 2016 which will see the opening of the Toy Shop, Railway Station and more. Planning is also underway for our 7th annual Pioneer Weekend in May with the band Hillbilly Goats, along with a weekend packed full of entertainment.”
