THE sale of Burdekin Downs and Oakey Park marked an end of an era for vendors David and Gail Burt, as properties have been in the family for three generations.
On Thursday, November 17, the properties were sold by public auction at the Enterprise Hotel, Charters Towers, to Pip and Dale Knuth and their son and daughter-in-law, Blair and Lenore Knuth.
An opening bid of $7 million was quickly raised to $10m by the auctioneer on behalf of the vendor.
Consequent bidding took the price to $12.45m at which it was passed in to the Knuth family. Further negotiations resulted in the sale but the sale price has not been revealed to date.
Matt Geaney, Geaney's Stock and Real Estate Agents, told the North Queensland Register there had been a tremendous amount of interest in the properties and he had always been confident they would sell.
"Burdekin Downs and Oakey Park are rural properties that demand respect and the sale proves that there is money around for quality properties," Mr Geaney said.
"Furthermore this sale will instill confidence into the rural property market in the region.
"With the amount of interest it generated, I was always confident it would sell."
The auction generated a huge amount of local interest, with more than 100 people attending the auction and eight bidders registering.
