THE Cloncurry Community Precinct has been awarded State winner in the Queensland Excellence in Construction 2013 for Sporting and Community Service Facilities $5 million - $20 million.
Cloncurry Shire Council worked closely with RPA Architects and Carmichael Builders to create a friendly and functional space for the community.
Cloncurry Mayor Andrew Daniels congratulated those involved and said this is a great achievement for a building that has already hosted so many memorable events.
“The Precinct is the hub of our growing community,” says Daniels.
“This year alone the Precinct has hosted the Cattlemen’s dinner, NAIDOC week, Seniors Week, Questacon from Canberra, the Rural Women’s Conference, the Horse Douglas Rugby League Reunion dinner and the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.”
“It is great for a small community like ours to have facilities of this standard, with the capacity to host big groups of people, available for everyone to use.”
“The Precinct is just the beginning. Council has plans for a water treatment plant, the redevelopment of the Recreation Grounds and a top-grade Equestrian Centre.”
“On behalf of the Cloncurry community and Shire Council, I would like to thank RPA Architects and Carmichael Builders for their involvement with the project.”
Master Builders Executive Director Grant Galvin said the 2013 competition saw a record number of entries.
“Entries from across the state are scrutinised based on criteria such as quality of workmanship, degree of construction difficulty, external appeal, siting and aspect and aesthetics,” said Galvin.
The Cloncurry Community Precinct consists of a new library, art gallery, four function rooms, kitchen and bar facilities and internal and external break out areas. The Shire Hall was also refurbished as part of the project.
