CHARTERS TOWERS combined agents yarded a total of 1144 consisting of 997 prime cattle and 147 store cattle at the weekly prime and store sale held on March 13.
The prime sector comprised 246 bullocks, 12 heifers, 704 cows and 35 bulls.
Cattle comprised of good lines of meatworks bullocks and cows that sold to reduced rates. The yarding was drawn from Richmond, Hughenden, Malanda, Forsayth, Mt Surprise, Einasleigh, Pentland and the Charters Towers district.
Bullocks were quoted 15–20c easier, heifers were 10-15c easier, cows were 15-20c easier and bulls were 1-3c dearer on last sale’s rates.
Heifers to 440kg made 111.2c top average 86.7c, cows 400kg made 110c to average 89.5c/kg, cows over 400kg made 125.2c to average 104.8c/kg.
Steers to 500kg made 146.2c to average 122.8c, steers over 500kg made 151.2c to average 145.8c/kg. Bulls over 450kg made 121.2c to average 108c/kg.
Best priced trade heifers were presented on by Braceborough Pastoral Co, Braceborough, Balfes Creek, which made 110c/kg to weigh 368kg and return $405 per head while the top pen of cows were sold by BW & GJ Kirkwood, Somerview, Charters Towers, for 125.2c/kg and weighed 517.5kg to return $684 per head.
A pen of six bulls sold by RI and DA McCullough, Bruslee, Charters Towers, topped at 120c/kg and weighed 709kg to return $851 per head.
Store Cattle yarded comprised 109 steers, 38 heifers and one cow and calf. Cattle were in limited numbers and sold to rates similar to the previous week’s sale.
Steers to 200kg made 136.2c to average 136.2c, steers 200-320kg made 139.2c to average 130.2c, steers 320-400kg made 125c to average 119.7c, steers over 400kg made 138.2c to average 138.2c/kg
Heifers to 200kg made 130.2c to average 114.3c, heifers 200-320kg made 129.2c to average 106.1c, heifers 320-370kg made 120c to average 120c/kg.
A pen of 10 Brahman steers sold by PG and RC Terry, Robin Hood, Forsayth, made 139.2c/kg weighed 240.5kg and realised $334 per head and a pen of three Charbray heifers sold by D and R Morris, Stock Route Road, Charters Towers, made 130.2c/kg to weigh 188kg returning $245 per head.
