
THE Blackall Livestock Auction Association Ltd conducted its inaugural Grand Slam Cattle Sale on Thursday May 16.
An excellent quality yarding of 1200 head were presented for the sale. Cattle were drawn from local districts as well as Barcaldine, Adavale and Yaraka and Hughenden. Sale cattle were judged by Brendan Wade (Landmark), Cameron Wilson (Elders) Matt Byrnes (RWL) and Andrew Wardle (GDL).
Clarenden Cattle Co, Clarenden, Blackall, won the Grand Champion pen of prime cattle, with the 634kg Brahman-cross bullocks, making 146c to return $927 per head, while HLH and SJ Glasson, Greenlaw, Yaraka received the Reserve Champion pen of bullocks with some 712kg Santa bullocks, which made 144c returning $1027p/h.
Consolidated Pastoral Co, Isis Downs, Isisford sold top quality Charbray bullocks to top at 138c, weighing 636kg to return $879p/h, while CF and EJ Counsell, South Delta, Barcaldine won Reserve Champion pen of feeder steers, with Droughtmaster steers to weigh 487kg, to make 137c returning $668p/h.
RTK and SP Smith, from the Depot Glen Brahman Stud, Stonehenge, won the Reserve Champion pen of prime cows, the grey Brahman cows topped the sale at 120c, to weigh 600kg, and return $721p/h, while R and J Underwood, Eversleigh, Hughenden, won the Champion pen of store heifers, the Droughtmaster heifers sold to 125c, to weigh 363kg and return $454p/h.
Peel Mungerie Pty Ltd of, Inverness, Blackall, sold Santa Steers to a top of 142c to average 595kg and returned $847p/h, and Moonbong Partnership, Ravensbourne, Blackall, sold Santa cows, which were also the Champion pen of cows, these cows topped at 119.2c to average 640kg and returned $762p/h. They also sold Santa bullocks to a top of 143c to average 568kg and return $814p/h
BW and JM Dickson, Belle, Blackall, sold Santa-cross steers to a top of 142c to average 458kg to return $652p/h, while Westhill Trust, Westhill, Blackall, sold Santa steers to 143c to average 371kg and return $531p/h.
Maranda Pastoral Company, Bonnie Doon, sold Droughtmaster steers which were the Champion Pen of store steers as well as the Champion Pen of Store cattle. These steers topped at 140c to average 398kg to return $557p/h.
MHG and JJ O'Dell, Colorado, Jericho, sold Charolais steers to a top of 143c to average 433kg and return $620p/h. These steers were the reserve champion pen of store steers, while Duthie Park Grazing, Duthie Park, Blackall, sold Santa cows weighing 645kg for 111c returning $716p/h.
Paraway Pastoral Company Clonagh Station, Athol Station, Blackall, sold the Champion pen of Feeder Steers, Grand Champion Feeders and the Supreme Exhibit of the Blackall Grand Slam sale they topped at 135c weighing 465kg to return $629p/h, for the draft to average 133c weighing 468kg to return $622p/h.
Lynette K Schluter, 23 Mile, Blackall, sold Droughtmaster feeder steers for 134c weighing 443kg to return $595p/h, to average 136c weighing 413kg to return $561p/h, and Paraway Pastoral Company, Malvern Hills Station, Blackall sold Brahman-cross mickey’s to average 116c weighing 170kg to return $197p/h while their Brahman-cross heifers averaged 110c weighing 169kg to return $186p/h.
