
THE annual Toomba horse sale held at the Charters Towers Equestrian Centre could only be described as surprisingly successful considering the downturn in the northern beef industry.
On Sunday June-2 122 horses were presented to the Landmark auctioneers who achieved an 82 per cent clearance at an average of $5252 with a gross of $519,950 and a top price of $16,000 paid for the5yo stallion Rhondhu Bobs Rio Lena, a five year old, Bobs Hickory Rio stallion out of the dam Miss T Olena.
A $15,000 top price for a mare was paid by Mat Hoffman for Laroona Kareece bred by Peter, Dal-Marie and Jess Glenwright, Laroona Station, Charters Towers. The five year old, bay was sired by Soda Nomad and was out of the dam Laroona Spice Girl.
Top priced gelding was sold by Karl Burton, Box Ridge, Jondaryan, for $15,000 for Tassas Little King by the sire Spinifex King out of the dam Charity Lena.
