THOUSANDS of eager punters stormed through the gates of the Ingham Jockey Club for the running of the 2013 Ingham Gold Cup Race Day on Saturday.
The action was thrilling on the track with big fields, tight finishes and great conditions.
Off the track the crowd enjoyed a bet or two, a glass of champagne and some eye-catching fashions on the field.
The big winner on the track was up and coming jockey Emma Ljung who rode Blast out of Here to victory in Race 5 the Coscer Financial Professionals Ingam Gold Cup 2000m.
Ljung won earlier on in the day in Race 2 the Holden Open Handicap 1400m which was the very same event in which she notched her first ever win last year.
Winning the Cup capped a great streak of racing for Ljung who has now won 43 races in a span of 12 months.
Club President David Adcock said the day couldn’t have been any better.
“The Cup day has just grown and grown since its inception, everything just fell into place this year, we had a great well-behaved crowd and we were only two horses off a full field for every race,” Mr Adcock said.
He said looking ahead to next year the plan is to keep expanding to cater for even more people.
“We just want to keep making this day a bigger and better event for the crowd and the competitors,” he said.
